Finding Your Way Around
I recommend getting a good guidebook with maps. Even then, you might need to ask for directions. Maybe places have changed since your guide book was printed. Sometimes you arrive at the train station and there are no signs for tourists.
Right = à droite; Left = à gauche
Here are some place names:
Supermarket = un supermarché
Hospital = l'hôpital
Bank = une banque
Newsagents = un bureau de tabac
Parking = un parking
Underground/Tube station = une station de métro
The toilets = les toilettes
Ground floor (British English) = au rez-de-chaussée
First floor (British English) = au premier étage
The lifts = l'ascenseur
The stairs = l'escalier
Telephone card = une carte téléphonique / une télécarte
A phone booth = une cabine téléphonique

Making a phone call in France

Pedestrian: Il y a un bureau de tabac au coin de la rue.

Finding some toilets in Switzerland

Finding the train station in Paris
A: Excusez-moi, monsieur, où est la gare, s'il vous plaît?

Making a phone call in England

B: Yes. Take the second road on your left. There are toilets in 'Marks and Spencers', on the first floor near the stairs.

Finding an MRT station in Singapore
A: Excuse me. Is there an MRT station near here?
B: It's on South Bridge Road. Go straight. Take the third road on your left.
A: Thank you very much.
